Benefits
The immediate and obvious benefits of special economic zones are that they accelerated the growth in world trade (merchandise and services together). Together with privatization efforts of certain key industries (such as power generation, water supply/distribution, air transportation, etc.) and liberalization of most economies, SEZ has produced greater wealth and higher living standards in many countries. In many instances, economic zones and their resultant spillover effects or downstream benefits have lifted many people out of absolute poverty. But for the lucky few, zones increased their wealth immensely.
